Click Templates in the left sidebar (or search by keyword like "restaurant menu" or "LinkedIn banner").

Click a template to apply it. Everything is editable: click text to change content, double-click images to replace them.

Swap photos instantly by dragging your own image from the Uploads tab onto an existing photo. Canva will auto-fit it into the same shape/crop.

Mix and match pages – For multi-page designs (presentations), add pages from different templates. Use the "Add page" button and select a template style.

⚠️ Avoid template clichés: Customize colors, fonts, and imagery to avoid looking like a generic template. Aim for uniqueness while keeping the structure.

Great typography elevates your design. Canva offers powerful text controls beyond basic font changes.

Font Combinations

Canva suggests font pairs automatically. When you select a text box, click the font dropdown and scroll to see Suggested combinations based on your current font.

Text Effects

Select a text box, then click Effects in the top toolbar. Options include:

Shadow – Creates depth (adjust color, blur, offset).
Lift (Canva Pro) – Realistic 3D shadow.
Echo – Duplicate text with offset for a neon or retro look.
Curve – Bend text along a path; perfect for logos and badges.

Text Masking

Combine text with images. Type your text, then drag an image over it. Select both, right-click and choose "Use Image as Text Fill" (or from the top menu). This creates a stunning typography visual.

Professional designs rely on precise alignment and spacing. Canva provides visual guides and tools:

Snap-to-grid & Margins: Purple lines appear when an object aligns with the centre or another element. Use the Position panel to distribute objects evenly.
Grids & Frames: Under "Elements", search for "grid". These are pre-made multi-frame layouts that you can drop photos into — perfect for collages.
Custom Dimensions: If the preset size isn't right, click Create a design → Custom size (top right). Enter exact pixel dimensions or use popular presets.

Video Editing

🎞️ Reduce file size: When exporting video, adjust quality settings. For web, 1080p at medium quality often looks great and loads faster.

A Brand Kit saves your logo, brand colors, and fonts — ensuring consistency across all designs. Available on Canva Pro.

In the editor sidebar, click Brand (or go to the dashboard's "Brand Kit" section).
